The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between May 12-18 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in  El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

Summary of El Cerrito Police Calls:

May 12th

  • Residential Burglary – 5300 block of Potrero Ave: At 6:01 AM, a resident woke up to find a suspect in their home. As soon as the suspect became aware of the victim’s presence, the suspect ran out the front door.

May 13th 

  • Commercial Burglary / Resist Officer – 10945 San Pablo Ave. (Hassler Heating & A/C): 
    At 7:07 AM, an employee arrived to find a suspect had climbed through a window and fled with property belonging to the business. Officers located the suspect and took the suspect into custody after resisting arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Vehicle Tampering – 600 block of Kearney St.: At 1:44 PM, a victim reports a suspect struck the driver door lock of the victim’s vehicle sometime between 5/11/2024 and 5/12/2024.
  • Petty Theft – 5200 block of Victor Ave: At 3:04 PM, a suspect stole an item from inside a vehicle that was left abandoned.
  • Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 8:07 PM, an officer reported three suspects stole merchandise after asking the manager to unlock the makeup case.
  • Failure to Obey an Officer / Identity Theft – Eastshore Blvd. / San Pablo Ave.: At 1:54 AM, an officer recognized a subject that is currently on probation and attempted to contact them. The subject rode off on their bicycle and failed to obey the officer’s commands. Officers circulated the area and located the suspect. During the search, the subject was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to another person. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

May 14th

  • Stolen License Plates – 2100 block of Junction Ave.: At 10:24 AM, a victim reported that their license plate was stolen from their vehicle.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 6400 block of Portola Dr.: At 01:44 PM, a victim reports a suspect stole their vehicle sometime between 05/11/2024 and 05/14/2024.
  • Burglary and Stolen Vehicle – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-hour Fitness): At 2:13 PM, a victim reported that a suspect broke into their locker, stole the keys to their vehicle, and then stole their vehicle that was in the parking lot.
  • Grand Theft – 10800 Block of San Pablo Ave.: At 5:30 PM, the victim reported their bicycle stolen.

May 15th

  • Stolen License Plate – 800 block of Everett St.: At 9:00 AM, the victim reported that their rear license plate was stolen from their vehicle.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 7200 block of Waldo Ave.: At 3:23 PM, the victim reported that their vehicle was stolen.

May 16th 

  • Stolen and Forged Check – 800 block of Seaview Dr.: At 11:53 AM, the victim reported their check was stolen and fraudulently cashed.
  • Criminal Threats – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave.: At 1:23 PM, the victim reports that they have been receiving threatening text messages from a subject.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 5:02 PM, an officer located a stolen vehicle and arrested the driver. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

May 17th 

  • Trespassing – 11299 San Pablo Ave. (Del Norte Place): At 11:13 AM, an officer accepted the citizen arrest of a suspect who returned to the property after being told by an employee to leave serval times before. After refusing to leave the area, the suspect was arrested, released on a citation, and escorted off the property.
  • Warrant Arrest and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Eastshore Blvd. / Potrero Ave.: At 6:55 PM, an officer made a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver to have a warrant. During a search, officers found the driver to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Robbery – BART path between Eureka Ave. / Lincoln Ave.: At 8:50 PM, three suspects took the victim’s electrical scooter.
  • Driving Under the Influence (Collision) – 700 block of Elm St.: At 1:24 AM, the driver of the vehicle collided with a pole and was contacted by officers. During a DUI investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation to a sober friend.
  • Driving Under the Influence – Fairmount Ave. / Everett St.: At 2:21 AM, an officer made a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation to a sober friend.

May 18th

  • Shoplifting – 11545 San Pablo Ave. (Ross):  At 4:09 PM, the suspects stole merchandise and fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Attempted Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 6:15 PM, a suspect entered the store wielding a weapon and threatened a store employee. The suspect fled from the store and was located by officers. The suspect was identified by the victim and placed under arrest. The suspect was then booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
